Now that a particular associate and I have the means to acquire a substantial library of games, our nostalgic curiosity has blossomed. I recently played through the original God of War (PS2); A privelege that a younger Doc cast aside as fantasy.

I've only ever heard spectacular things of a certain pale individual and his tethered blades, and I tell you now that the visceral imagery of impaling a mythical creature is captivating, despite watching through a 4:3 ratio, standard-definition lens. I briefly thought about discussing whether ultra-violence, or garment-deficient individuals make a good game (they sure as heck move them off the shelf!), but at it's core, God of War is very good at balancing the cadences of platforming and fighting elements.
Here he is learning Ogrish Acupuncture. The whole game is just Kratos going to school, really.
What are some old games that you have missed out on? Have you played any that withstand the test of time and graphics chips?
